Many people don’t know much about the cost of a plush toy. When designing, they just design as good-looking as possible. When taking the design drawings or the actual dolls 🧸 to the factory for quotation, the price quoted by the factory is also unsatisfactory.
However, after reading this article, I believe that many friends will have a certain understanding of the cost!
The most basic determining factors revolve around these aspects⬇️
1️⃣Labor cost = (largest proportion)
Labor cost accounts for the largest proportion, accounting for 40% or more. A qualified plush toy needs to be sewn by a master, a cotton filling master, a handicraft master, a testing master, a packaging master, etc. (Figure 2)
2️⃣Size = (fabric usage) (fabric quality)
The more fabric a single doll occupies, the more filling it has, and the higher the cost. Different fabrics also have different prices, and the same fabric of different quality also has different prices. The higher the gram weight, the thicker the material, and the higher the price. (Figure 3)
3️⃣ Complexity = (multiple sewing positions) (additional function installation)
For example: there are many types of plush products, such as bags, animals, and characters. The more fabric interfaces, the more time and processes are required, such as the hands and feet of animals, the zippers of bags, the stitching of different colors, the hair, clothes and hats of characters, etc. Some need to add glass beads, models, magnets, movements, eyeballs, etc. (Figure 4)
4️⃣ Production difficulty = (special details) (special shapes)
Special shape details will consume most of the time of manual labor, such as wavy shapes and irregular shapes. Perhaps a slight deviation will require rework and modification. (Figure 5)
5️⃣Additional process = (printing) (embroidery)
When the process area is large, the embroidery cost will be higher than the printing cost, and when the process area is small, the cost will be slightly different. (Figure 6)

These are the factors that determine the cost of plush toys. You can also use these factors to further optimize the design when designing dolls~
